During 2012, Helsinki will open up the benefits and value of design and explore the ways in which it is etched into our everyday lives. Design-themed events will illuminate the city throughout the year and among the scintillating spectacles will be a host of films shot in Helsinki from the 1930s to the 1960s. Bringing the wonders of north to south, the Lapland Snow Design Event will showcase local design competence from Lapland including new snow and ice designs - carried out in an ecologically, culturally way.
Laboratory will open its doors to the world in February. The gallery is located at the heart of the Finnish city and will feature photography and visual art by both Finnish and international artists.
